Overwatch

As a huge fan of Team Fortress 2, I was instantly intrigued by the futuristic, militaristic style that was introduced with the creation of Overwatch. From the moment I first started playing, I immediately fell in love. The game's colorful scheme, beautifully animated shorts, dramatic origin stories, and captivating characters make Overwatch one of the greatest games I have ever played. Every single Overwatch hero is special, with most of them having a complex backstory and amazing concept art. The unique art style caught my eye, and I was deeply interested in incorporating its elements into my own work.

Overwatch Original Character

Arevik (aka Zara Vardanyan)

Concept art for my original Overwatch character Arevik can be seen below. Zara Vardanyan is a freelance mercenary based in Goris, Armenia. Operating as a clandestine asset for the Armenian government during the Omnic crisis, Vardanyan donned red and gold attire. The red coloring is related to the ancient Armenian mythology surrounding the pomegranate which symbolizes fertility and good fortune, while gold symbolizes the importance of the sun, or more generally, light. The prominent ancient Armenian symbol of "eternity", known as the Armenian "Sun Cross", is present on her forehead, shield, wings, waist, sword, and cloak sleeves. Using it as a symbol of hope and encouragement to keep fighting against the Omnics, the young warrior fought under the alias Arevik. "Arev" translates to "sun" in Armenian, and fittingly, Arevik's ultimate ability allows her to emit a light that blinds any surrounding enemies for several seconds.
